Acne Scar Removal

Almost everyone suffers from acne at one point in their lives. For some people, their face may never fully recover from the acne, if they are left with scars. If you are one of them, you might feel that acne scars are almost as bad as having acne permanently, as the marks seem like they might never fade and remind you of how miserable you felt when you had the acne in the first place. However, there are several types of acne scar removal methods, and with a little research you might find that one of them is right for you.

Options for Acne Scar Removal

First of all, for many average cases of acne scarring, over-the-counter creams are available that claim to help fade scars. To find these, ask at the cosmetics counter at your local drugstore or department store. They are usually pretty inexpensive and are available for various skin types, such as dry skin or oily skin. If you have any allergies, be sure to check the ingredients of any new products to make sure you don’t do your skin further damage. Most of these do not work to entirely remove very dark scars, but will at least help most scarring to fade a bit.

For more serious acne scar removal you will probably want to make an appointment with a dermatologist, who will work with you to design a specialized treatment program for your acne scar removal. These may be stronger acne scar creams, topical ointments, or antibiotic creams. If these do not seem to be effective in your case, the next step may be to use a chemical peel or laser surgery. Both laser and chemical methods remove the top layer of skin, revealing a fresh new layer. Depending on the type of acne scarring, these treatments may lighten the discoloration of the scars ,or may remove them entirely to be replaced with newly grown skin.

If you have any acne at the time, it’s probably not a good idea to try any more serious methods, as they can make your acne much worse. Be sure to ask about any side effects of acne scar removal treatments, as well as any special requirement you should follow immediately after acne scar removal, such as avoiding the sun or various types of skin care products. Be sure to follow the doctor’s directions carefully.

Acne scar removal can be difficult, but there are many options available. See which one may be right for you.
