Acne Treatment
If you, like millions of other people, suffer from acne, you’ve probably wish for a magic acne treatment that would make it vanish instantly, leaving you with clean clear skin, like you see in commercials. Well, that’s not truly possible in real life. There are, however, lots of ways to cure acne, which can help clean up the spots you already have, prevent them from scarring, and keep you from getting more acne later. But it takes a little research and some patience to find the acne treatment that’s right for you.
Home Acne Treatment
There are lots of things you can try yourself to clear up your acne. You can start by making sure you drink a lot of water – about eight cups a day – which will help your body to moisturize your skin and grow healthy new skin cells. Even if you’re doing everything else right, if you’re not getting enough to drink your skin is the first to suffer. The next step is to keep your skin clean. Wash your face (and any other acne-prone areas) twice a day with a facial wash designed for acne. You can also try over-the-counter acne treatment creams. Many of these, whish are readily available in stores, contain benzoyl peroxide, which acts as an antibacterial agent and helps to reduce the oil in the skin. It can be too drying to the parts of your face with no pimples though, so be careful when applying, and always follow the directions on the package.
Professional Acne Treatment
Many cases of acne are more severe and do not clear up with home treatment. Luckily, dermatologists are experts at treating skin with acne and other problems. Your dermatologist will be able to check to make sure you’re not actually suffering from an allergy or other health problem that might be causing your acne, and can prescribe you stronger acne treatment creams and treatments. Sometimes powerful antibiotic creams are prescribed. In certain cases of acne, oral treatments will be prescribed. These are often oral antibiotics, which you must take for months at a time in order to have an effect. However, using them can lead to the bacteria growing resistant to the antibiotics themselves, essentially morphing into new stronger bacteria. This is why oral antibiotics are only prescribed for acne treatment in some cases when other treatments are not appropriate. Dermatologists can also recommend treatments for healing old acne scarring.
Whether you choose to try a home remedy or consult a doctor, just a little work will lead you to the acne treatment that’s right for you.
